If you are coming from North Queensland, the nearest gateway to Fraser Island is Hervey Bay. If you are coming from the South, Noosa is only a 1.5-hour drive from Brisbane.
Free car parking is available at both locations for the duration of the tour.
Getting to Fraser Island by bus
Greyhound and Sun Bus operate daily tours to Noosa, Hervey Bay and Rainbow Beach. By starting your tour in Noosa and finishing in Hervey Bay, if you’re travelling North, or vice versa if travelling South, you can save yourself the time and hassle of covering that distance by bus.
Getting to Fraser Island by train
Queensland Rail runs daily services to Maryborough, with a connecting bus to Hervey Bay. If you are travelling on a rail pass and don’t want to spend any extra money, this is the best way to go. However, you can also get a train to Cooroy and catch a bus to Noosa from there, which will only cost a few dollars. We highly recommend starting your tour in Noosa and finishing in Hervey Bay, if you’re travelling North, or vice versa if travelling South.
Getting to Fraser Island by air
The best airports to fly into are Hervey Bay or Sunshine Coast Airport in Maroochydore, with regular shuttles to Noosa. Rainbow Beach has no Airport. Brisbane airport is only a 2 hour bus journey away, with regular shuttle buses connecting the airport and Noosa.
